Methods of Repair
Options for repair are numerous. Several different hernia repair methods exist for any given hernia. All of these techniques may have excellent outcomes when performed by surgeons with extensive experience in that particular method.
At the Center for Hernia Repair, all possible approaches for repair are explored for each and every one of our hernia patients. This customized approach helps us to achieve a durable and comfortable outcome. Reduction of post-surgical pain, quick recovery and prevention of recurrence are the highest priorities for Dr. Yunis.
Laparoscopic Repair
Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Repair
Laparoscopic inguinal hernia repair is performed through 3 small incisions (12mm, 5mm, and 5mm) on the lower midline of the abdominal wall. A high definition video telescope is used to gently expose the hernia from inside of the abdominal wall.
In a TEP (Total extraperitoneal) procedure this exposure of the hernia may be outside of the peritoneum (the bag like covering of the abdominal organs).
In a TAPP (TransAbdominal PrePeritoneal) procedure this exposure is initially inside the peritoneum and ultimately the repair is similar by virtue of the mesh being placed outside of the peritoneum (extraperitoneal).
Advantages of Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Repair
